Hello Everyone,
I am waiting in excitement for the release of the official Yellow submarine Lego set on the 1st of November. Heres a link to the page so you can see it in all its bright yellow glory:
https://shop.lego.com/en-US/Yellow-Submarine-21306

Anyway since I ended up having to re-watch the Yellow Submarine to tide me over while I wait I just had to do another design based on this film and today its the Blue Meanie who wishes to take over Pepperland and make everything Blue.
I did attempt to draw the Flying Glove but after several attempts it didn't turn out quite right. So I may try it again and finish it off if I get asked for it but right now its been a very difficult to get right.

If you are a fan of the Yellow Submarine as much as I am maybe you would like to see my design of the submarine itself which can be found here:

Hello everyone, a sad little Halloween design today. Heres a Ghost visiting a friend at the gravestone.
Don't worry next up I'll have some happier cross stitch designs coming right up!
If this is a little sad why not try my design of a happy ghost hanging out at a grave stone here: link

This design could be sewn for a Halloween card or as part of a collection of Halloween motifs for decoration or party table settings but that all depends on your party theme. I may actually just use the gravestone from this one for a few stitches. (I know I drew it but that ghost is kind making me sad now :p)

Anyway I hope you all have a fun and spooky Halloween no matter what you are doing.

Much love and happy stitching
Gemma xx

How to make a Shyguy/Shygal costume mask - cosplay tutorial

How to make a Shyguy costume mask - cosplay tutorial

Hello everyone,
This year I went to May London MCM as a Shygal. What's a Shygal? I hear you all cry, well they are female versions of Shyguys from the Mario games. From what I found out these creatures are only seen in fan art and have not been featured in the games. I assume in the games Shyguys can be male or female since we really can't tell while they wear those masks. This mask design can also be used for a regular Shyguy too since they are the same.

My costume is based on the Shygal in the Baby got DLC video found on YouTube (link below) hence the combination of a blue hood and pink hair.

Baby got DLC (caution may be NSFW)

While making this cosplay I didn't find much by the way of a tutorial for the mask, which is surprising since I thought that these little guys would be quite popular among Cosplayers. So this is why I decided to make a quick tutorial on how I made mine. There are a couple other Tutorials for masks made from foam and other materials but I decided on cardboard since this was meant to be my cheap cosplay. You can choose to use foam instead of cardboard but bear in mind that foam will bend more around the face. I find that this doesn't look right on the cosplay because the mask does not bend on Shyguys.

Anyway without further ado lets get this tutorial started:

What you will need:
Cardboard (I recycled an old cardboard box)
Paint in white and black
A pair of black tights or stockings (ensure they are thin enough that they can be seen through when close up)
Enough thick elastic to go around your head.
Stapler
Glue

Step 1:
Draw around plates to get two of the same circles on your cardboard and cut out ovals for the eyes on each circle. Make sure the ovals are lined up on both circles.

Step 2:
Get out your paints and paint one side of one of your circles white. Once the white layer is dry use black paint to add a oval for the mouth inbetween the eyes.

Step 3:
Take your pair of black tights or stockings and cut out a piece which will cover both eyeholes on your circles.

Step 4:
On the cardboard circle you did not paint use your stapler to staple the piece of stocking over the eye holes.
When stapling each piece make sure that the flat side of the staple is on the outside while the ends of the staple should be on the inside. This is so that the flat side of the staple will be on this side which is against your face. Trust me on this one you really don't want the sharp side of the staple rubbing against your cheek.

Measure out the elastic so it goes around your head but leave a little extra for attaching to the cardboard.
Once the elastic is the right size staple it to either side of the cardboard as shown in the photo. Remember make sure the flat part of the staple is on the outside.

The picture above shows the inside edge of the mask. As you can see the tights and elastic are stapled to the same side.

In this picture below you can see the outside of the mask. I have made sure the flat side of the staple is on this side as it is the side which will be against the wearers face.

Step 5

Glue both halves together. Make sure to glue the inside of the stapled piece of the unpainted side of the other piece.

The Cosplay

Finally to finish off grab a plain hoodie put it on and put on your mask. You can finish off the look with a pair of plain trousers and a black or brown belt worn over the top of the hoodie.
Here I am wearing a wig because I decided to be a Shygal but you can easily leave it off and become a Shyguy just as easily.

It is easy to see through this mask because tights are generally see through when you are close up. However it is a little like wearing dark sunglasses so beware visibility may be a little limited in darker environments. However when wearing the mask outdoors I actually had no problem getting about.

Hello everyone,

With Halloween round the corner I decided to rewatch the nightmare night episode of My Little Pony and boy do I love that one. It reminded me of just how sweet and awkward she was in the first season. I suppose that's what a thousand years on the moon will do for you.

This design is based more off Luna's appearance in the second season, shes grown up a little more, learned to stand tall and give orders without having to use the Royal Canterlot voice and in this way feels more majestic and graceful.

This design is just the right size for a cushion or quilt I think that Luna would go great with some calming blue fabric or some fabric containing stars and moon patterns to help a special someone sleep knowing Princess Luna is watching over their dreams.

Hello everyone,
This week is a bright and colourful sugar skull themed design. Sugar skulls are a tradition for the Mexican Day of the Dead which takes place on November 1st. They are named because they are traditionally made from sugar, sometimes as a gift to loved ones and sometimes as an offering to the dead.
Some sugar skulls can be eaten but others are meant to be decorative and contain non edible elements such as feathers and gems.

If you would like to find out more about traditional sugar skulls here is a link to the wikpedia page:

This is a slightly more challenging cross stitch to sew than I normally draw but sugar skulls are known for their intricate details and variety of colours. So it seems that any sugar skull design would need to use lots of embroidery thread colours to get the variety of shades a sugar skull needs.

Hello everyone,

Today is a quick cross stitch design which was a request from a friend. She wants to sew it on to her altar cloth which she is making.
If you want to sew this one you don't need to stick to these colours why not find the colour that most appeals to you for the stitch? I have posted up a version using one colour or two colours to help you pick the combination you like the best.

This design is small enough that it could fit into some plastic coasters if sewn on 18 count aida. Make sure your coaster will be big enough before stitching though to avoid disappointment since coaster sizes vary.
